Head of Montenegro-seacoast Mitropolia Amfilohije made decree to support financially work of Islamic community for Boka Kotorska in Montenegro, which represents one more example of good cooperation between two big confessional communities, Serbian Orthodox Church and Montenegro Islamic Community.
Husein effendi Hodžić, imam in Tivat and chairman of Majlis of Islamic community for Boka Kotorska and Budva, deems it is seldom that representatives of different religious confessions regardless to non-identical hierarchy level manage to recuperate mutual trust. Two confessions, two religious communities, are on the firm road to develop genuine collaboration for the benefit of their coexistence in Montenegro and beyond. Husein effendi Hodžić emphasizes that his contacts, insights and cooperation with Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, and especially with Head of Mitropolia - bishop Amfilohije, lasts almost ten months, and that he considers bishop Amfilohije’s gesture as sincere and well-intentioned, as well as that two of them collaborate at equal level.
On the other side, effendi Hodžić, who was until recently main imam in Majlis of Islamic community in Trebinje, is well known for donating his personal money for building the house for family of suddenly deceased archpriest Dragan Cvijanović last year. This could be only one of many ordinary stories where family with their own effort managed to put roof over their head, if there was not additional, pure human aspect involved, due to set of unfortunate circumstances. Archpriest Dragan Cvijanović desired to build for himself and his family house that could be called home and he bought the plot, but he suddenly died in age of 57. Effendi Hodžić was the first to initiate action to fulfil the last will of archpriest Cvijanović, which resulted in new house that was provided for his family in Bileća.
Imam Hodžić and late archpriest Cvijanović met in 2010 and year later, in 2011, in Bileća they gave join speech on occasion of opening the Gradska džamija (City Mosque). Their speeches were in spirit of tolerance and peaceful coexistence which echoed in public, close environment and local community.
According to Milivoje Cvijanović, a son of late archpriest, cooperation of his father as archpriest of Serbian Orthodox Church and ex-imam of Islamic community In Trebinje, represents proof that join life of diverse communities is possible not only in Eastern Herzegovina, but in whole Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. Their collaboration is example that recent war conflicts did not destroy all, that there are ways for join coexistence and that each and everyone have responsibility to actively contribute to reconnection and to strengthening multiethnicity, cohabitation and cooperation.
Effendi Hadžić sends the same message stating there are wide space for development of good mutual inter-confessional relations in Montenegro, what regretfully is not utilized accordingly by leading religious communities and their leaders. Additionally, media do not recognize nor give publicity to already established cooperation and interaction between confessions in Montenegro, missing opportunity to contribute to better comprehension and mutual understanding in whole country.
